Ancestral Lineage Healing
About
the work
Ancestral lineage healing is an ancient practice made newly accessible for relating directly with one's ancestors. Through a process of connecting in prayer with the goodness and medicine of our people, we create healing for ourselves, our family, and culturally for the good of all.
In connection with our wise and well ancestors, Jody and Kama will guide you in the ritual technology for accessing the gifts and power of your people to heal from current and inter-generational trauma. Our work is expressly animist, Earth-honoring, and anti-supremacist and will cultivate opportunities for restorative justice and repair across intersectional contexts of harm.

Jody and Kama

Tiumaluali'i Jody Hassel
Tiumaluali'i Jody Hassel once asked twenty of her closest friends to witness her swim in the silt-laden waters of the Tanana River as a ritual way to call in power and protection for her chemotherapy. Now celebrating two years of No Evidence of Disease, Jody is excited to share her methods of ritual technology in her forthcoming memoir To the Root: Recovery of a Sāmoan Princess in the Exile of Erasure and in the book's companion oracle deck 36 Seeds: The Sacred Arts of Growing Wild.
Jody is the founder and former executive director of Blossom House Healing Arts a grassroots nonprofit dedicated to offering trauma-informed interventions of wellness and expressive arts to those impacted by carceral and substance use recovery impacts. As a survivor of trauma and transracial adoptee, she is committed to establishing accessible resources for the decolonization of our lands, waters, minds, and hearts for the good of all.
Kama Tai Mitchell
Kama Tai Mitchell is a mama of two young men, yogi, ritualist, certified birth/death doula, dancer of the African Diaspora, and cultural healing arts innovator. She utilizes her lived experiences and scholarship to be a culture healer and wisdom bearer for the greater good of the Earth and all its inhabitants. Kama has a core belief that living a kind, authentic and embodied life is the root of all healing. Kama identifies as an animist of mixed ancestry, queer, radical, abolitionist, and a grand lover of life in all its natural splendor.
Kama is the founder and former executive director of Rootead Enrichment Center in Kalamazoo, MI. A center focused on reducing epigenetic stress/trauma, de-stigmatizing mental health, and disrupting intergenerational poverty and disease through generative offerings and collaborations, while intentionally centering the lived experience of BIPOC & LGBTQIA+ folx.

Ch'eno Kenaga' & Tanana Khwt'ana Dené
Our gathering is about a 20-minute walk from the Chena River which flows into the Tanana River in what is now known as Fairbanks, Alaska. This land is the current and ancestral hunting, fishing, and gathering grounds of the Lower Tanana Dené, or the Tth'itu' Xwt'ana, some of the many First Peoples of Alaska. The original language of this place is Ch'eno Kenaga' and according to traditional wisdom, this language and these folks have been here forever.
As colonizing scientists might say, the oldest undisputed human archaeological sites in North America—including Swan Point in the Tanana Valley—date back roughly 14,000 years. These sites display early tool technologies and genetic ties directly to the ancestors of the Tanana Athabaskans.

Please bring whatever you’ll need to be comfortable. Spacious two-hour lunch breaks allow us to enjoy nearby restaurant options.
Our work takes an approach that is psychologically grounded, ritually safe, and culturally inclusive. Teachings and practices are co-led by Kama and Jody with a team of trained supporters. Those new to ancestor work, adoptees, and folks with a tough experience of family are welcome.
